8/27/2013 0 Comments Back To School Includes Prayer![]() It’s that time of year again! Our children are heading back to school. A new school year, a new beginning. School bells are ringing and yellow buses are running their routes. Whether our children are just starting kindergarten, entering high school, or leaving the nest for college, our hearts and hopes go with them. Many students, teachers and school personnel are now returning to the classrooms while others won't be at their desks until after Labor Day. Many families spend the end of summer preparing for a new school year. Buying new clothes and school supplies and finding out about new classrooms and teachers are all part of the excitement. Family discussions about safety issues can help prepare students to face the many dangers they may face and prayer should be in those preparations. ![]() I believe that it is very important to pray over our children as they start their new school year. I remember affectionally waking up in the middle of the night with my father covering us in prayer. The Bible teaches and Christians believe that prayers asking God for protection and guidance are essential when preparing for an unknown future. King David, writer of many of the Psalms, spent much of his life in perilous conditions. David attributed his survival to God as expressed in Psalms. Christian prayers are conversations between God and Christ-followers. Christians believe that God is always listening. Often children are comfortable praying to God, especially if they are young and have heard their parents pray. They don't worry about getting the words right or saying something wrong. You should encourage your children to make up their own prayers, and just talk to God as they would talk to their friends. Forcing a reluctant child to pray is not usually helpful. Instead, a parent can pray for the child as he or she listens. Remind students of the belief that prayer help is available immediately, no matter where they are or what is happening. There are so many negative influences out there and we have to remain prayerful and active in our children’s lives. Christians must remember that asking God for protection should not be seen as putting on a magic cloak of invincibility; children should be reminded of this point. It is not wise to go blindly and stupidly into perilous situations with an arrogant attitude because of faith in God’s protection. ![]() A Christian parent may find it helpful to discuss the instructions Jesus gave his disciples when he sent them out on journeys to share the good news. He said, "Stay alert. This is hazardous work I'm assigning you. You're going to be like sheep running through a wolf pack, so don't call attention to yourselves. Be as cunning as a snake, inoffensive as a dove. Don't be naive.” Matt 10:16-17a (The Message) Intercessory PrayerHeavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus Christ’s Holy Name praying that you be with every child that is returning back to school this year. Protect them as they wait at the bus stop, ride the bus, travel by car, or walk to school. Keep them safe from dangers seen and unseen. Help our school crossing guards and bus drivers to remain attentive on their jobs. Give our children favor with their teachers and help them to pay attention in class. Let this be their best year yet.

Many of us sing the very popular song by Tamela Mann, “Take Me To The King” but how many of us are really ready to be taken to the King? Are we ready to dedicate a night to experiencing a night basking in the presence of the Most High, listening, talking and hearing what He has to say? How many of us will spend one night interceding for others, confessing our transgressions, praying for the lost, interceding for those on the mission field, praying for the family unit and doing spiritual warfare in prayer? The members of The Sanctuary did and our "Night of Prayer" with the King was epic. I can’t express what that one night did for my spirit and how it forever changed me and everyone else that experienced that night. Our lives were forever changed and we all are connected in the spirit and truly felt as though we were one body. The power and glory of God was in that place and those who were fortunate to attend experienced that glory. When I inquired how was the experience for those who attended, they all responded with, “It was more than what I expected”. Each of us had an encounter with God that was intimate, empowering, and moving, so much so that we all cannot articulate what we experienced. The day after each of us expressed that it was like we were in a cloud of glory and how it has taken us a day or so for each of us to really regain our bearings. Even those that participated virtually stated that you could feel the Shekinah glory. That one night with the King brought immediate change in the area of my life and in the lives of those that dedicated a night praying to the King of Kings. Prayer is a great privilege. Can you think of any greater honor than to have an audience with the One who rules over all creation? That night we were invited to talk with the one who put the stars in place. We were invited to seek counsel from the One who is truth and wisdom. We were invited to sit down with the One who knows all things and those conversations renewed, restored, and developed and created a vital relationship. That "Night of Prayer" made a difference. I can't tell you how it "worked". All I know is that circumstances changed that night. And after that experience, all I could say when I observed the sun rising over the horizon was a prayer of “Thank You” as we immediately begin to see results of our intercession, petitions, cries, and moaning’. Yes, God brought manifestation immediately and all we could say was thank you. As we approach our second night in our second city for another “Night of Prayer” and I just want to thank God for what He did that night, for what He is doing now in my life and in The Sanctuary and for what He will do for those who will meet The Sanctuary, in Charlotte, NC August 16, 2013, at sundown. As we prepare to ascend the mountain to pray we ascend with "A Prayer of Worship and Thanksgiving" coming from our lips. Intercession PrayerHeavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, I praise Your Holy Name. Thank You Lord, O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You. Thank You Lord that You are my strength and my song and You have become my salvation. You are my God, and I will exalt You according to Exodus 15:2-3. Thank You Lord that our mouths will speak the praise of the Lord, all flesh will bless Your Holy Name forever and ever according to Psalms 145:21. The Lord lives; praise be to my Rock; exalted be God my Savior according to Psalms 18:46. Thank You Lord that we will praise You from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, |
IntercessionPrayer is the expression of man’s dependence upon God and his confidence in Him. When God answers prayer, He magnifies His faithfulness. Prayer is releasing the energies of God and asking God to do what we cannot do. Prayer is the breathing and panting of the Spirit after God. Prayer is a soul struggle. It is the hardest work God has given His children, but it is their most important work. If you have a Archives
