The Power of Praying Wife

Why should you pray for your Husband?

Besides the obvious blessing of appealing to the Lord and Creator of the Universe on behalf of your husband, the words you pray can also be powerful and effective in your life, and more importantly, your marriage.

The praying wife is a godly woman who values her marriage and would do whatever is necessary in ensuring the peace of God and the joy of the Lord dwells continuously in her home. The praying wife is a woman that prays consistently for her husband regardless of whether she feels like it or not because she knows the importance of prayer. She is praying at all times with a joyful heart. (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-17).  We as wives have been given the legal and spiritual authority by God to stand in gap for our husbands. As long as you are the legally married wife of your spouse, you are operating according to the will of God for your life and that of your husband’s. (Ephesians 5: 31)

We are required to pray for the well being of our husbands because God has made the husband to be head of his wife, the priest of the home as Christ is the head of the church. (Ephesians 5:22-23). And it shows an act of true and genuine love for our husbands. There is no greater way of showing one’s love than to pray for him regularly. Praying for our husbands brings God’s presence into the center of our marriage and as a woman, you recognize that you need God’s grace and strength to build a lasting marriage.
 
But beloved, I must honestly confess that when my husband and I argue or let’s just say have " a difference of opinion" or when he has done or said something that deeply hurts, the desire and thought of praying for him is far from my mind. I do not even feel like being in the same room with him let alone praying for him. I am certain some of you can agree with me on that.  Nevertheless, we should remember that he is still human and just like us, he has the tendency to disappoint or cause hurt whether intentional or not. There will definitely be times when trials will come but God is still in control because He is in the center of the marriage. And so, no matter how hurt or disappointed you are, you should not cease praying for him. Even scripture admonishes us to love and pray for our enemies, how much more praying for someone whom we love and share our lives with. (Matthew 5:44).

Therefore, instead of dwelling on the hurt or pain, report him to God, the one who made him the head of you and gave him authority over your household. (1 Corinthians 11:3)  Never give the enemy the opportunity to gain a foothold in your marriage by allowing the pain or hurt to consume or overwhelm you, thus leading you to miss the mark with your words and/or actions, but go to the Lord in prayer pouring your heart out and looking unto Him for healing. Trust me the Prince of peace will begin to work on your behalf as long as you do your part to let go of the anger and bitterness, forgiving your husband and let the Lord take complete control of the situation. (Mark 11:25, Exodus 14:14).


The wife that prays is definitely a tool in the hands of the Lord to safeguard her marriage against the devices of the enemy. Praying for your husband in accordance with the will of God can never lead you down the wrong path. For the words that comes out of your mouth has life in it to either make or break your husband and marriage. (Proverbs 18:21) The praying wife is a woman on call 24 hours a day, she is one that is vigilant, always on alert because at anytime she may feel the need to pray for a particular issue according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. She is indeed a woman led by the Lord and is willing to do whatever necessary to safeguard her marriage. 

Beloved, enter into intercession and be " The Praying Wife" in your marriage and the Lord will strengthen and empower you!

Dear Father,

I pray for my husband today, that You may surround him with favor as a shield. (Psalm .5:12) May You open my husband’s ears to hear Your voice; may You open his eyes to see Your guidance: and may You open his heart to receive Your wisdom. May You give him a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of You, and may the eyes of his heart be enlightened so that he may know what is the hope of Your calling, what are the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in the saints and what is the surpassing greatness of Your power toward us who believe. (Eph. 1:17-19) I bind the spirits of rebellion, stubbornness and double-mindedness far from my husband in the name of Jesus, that he may be free to walk in Your way, and that he may be stable in his ways. (James.1:8) I pray that You will give my husband fresh insight and inspiration to do his work and that You will renew his strength as the eagle’s. (Isaiah. 40:31)


May you surround my husband with angelic protection in every place he is. (Psalm 91:11) And may You bring victory to him in every place the sole of his foot treads. (Joshua 1:3) May You prosper my husband in every task that he puts his hand to and may he be fruitful in all he undertakes as he seeks the counsel of wise men and delights and meditates in Your word. (Psalms 1:2) I bind the spirits of pride, spiritual blindness, self-sufficiency and self-righteousness far from my husband in the name of Jesus, in order that he will give you all the glory for what You are doing in his life. I bind the spirits of philosophy, deception and religious tradition far from my husband in the name of Jesus, so that he will not be deluded or pushed off the path that You have chosen for him. (Colossians 2:8) 


May my husband be slow to anger, and not quick temped. (Proverbs 14:29) May wisdom enter my husband’s heart and knowledge be pleasant to his soul; may discretion guard him, and understanding watch over him to deliver him from the way of evil. (Proverbs 2:10-12) May my husband trust in You with all his heart, and not lean on his own understanding; may he acknowledge You in all his ways, and may You make his paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

May You give my husband a deep thirst for Your word and may You give him a strong hunger to move in the power of the Holy Spirit. Father, I know that You will lead him into all truth by your Spirit. (John 16:13) I thank You and praise You and have confidence that since You have begun a good work in my husband, You will complete it. (Philippians 1:6) You will cause my husband to excel in all that he puts his hand to, as I trust You to guide him, since it is not by might, nor by power, but by Your Spirit. (Zechariah. 4:6) Sharpen my husband’s awareness of spiritual things, so that he will be effective in his role as the spiritual head of our household. (Ephesians 5:23) And help me to submit to his leadership in a way that is pleasing to You. (Colossians. 3:18)


May You hide my husband in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man, and may You keep him secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues. (Psalms 31:20) When he is tempted, I thank You that You will always provide the way of escape, that he may be able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13) In the name of Jesus, Amen.
