Now as they went on their way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be Does the peace of Christ reign in your home and in your personal life? Jesus loved to visit the home of Martha and Mary and enjoyed their gracious hospitality. In this brief encounter we see two very different temperaments in Martha and Mary. Martha loved to serve, but in her anxious manner of waiting on Jesus, she caused unrest. Mary, in her simple and trusting manner, waited on Jesus by sitting attentively at his feet. She instinctively knew that what the Lord and Teacher most wanted at that moment was her attentive presence. Anxiety and preoccupation keep us from listening and from giving the Lord our undivided attention. The Lord bids us to give him our concerns and anxieties because he is trustworthy and able to meet any need we have. His grace frees us from needless concerns and preoccupation. Do you seek the Lord attentively? And does the Lord find a welcomed and honored place in your home?
The Lord Jesus desires that we make a place for him, not only in our hearts, but in our homes and in the daily circumstances of our lives as well. We honor the Lord when we offer to him everything we have and everything we do. Afterall, everything we have is an outright gift from God (1 Chronicles 29:14). Paul the Apostle urges us to give God glory in everything: "Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him" (Colossians 3:17). When you sit, eat, sleep and when you entertain your friends and guests, remember that the Lord Jesus is also the guest of your home. Scripture tells us that when Abraham opened his home and welcomed three unknown travelers, he welcomed the Lord who blessed him favorably for his gracious hospitality (Genesis 18:1-10; Hebrews 13:2). The Lord wants us to bring him glory in the way we treat others and use the gifts he has graciously given to us. God, in turn, blesses us with his gracious presence and fills us with joy. Ask the Lord Jesus, to be in your presence in your life and bring joy to you. Ask him to free you from needless concerns and preoccupations so that you may give Him your undivided love and attention.

6/24/2013 0 Comments Send MeThen I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" ~ Isaiah 6:8 This is a wonderful Bible story. The prophet Isaiah finds himself, miraculously, at the throne of God. After seeing the angels worship God he cries out that he is unclean and so are his people. An angel then touches his lips with a hot coal and tells him that his sins are forgiven and atoned for. But the part we know the best is what happens next. God wants to send someone to deliver His message and Isaiah famously responds with "Here am I. Send me!"
"Here am I, send me" can mean different things to different people. For you, it could mean traveling to a far away country, volunteering at church, or taking care of elderly relatives who have no one else. Let's discover where God wants to send us. Let's have a "willing heart." That seemed to be Isaiah's heart. He was struck by God's presence and then blessed by God's forgiveness, so he was like, "I'll do whatever the heck You want me to do!" I'm sure this attitude is most pleasing to God and is a greater demonstration of faith. Isaiah's heart is an example of how we should respond if we hear The Holy Spirit calling us. The Lord calls some here and some there, and our response should always be like Isaiah's, one of eagerness to answer, "Send me". 6/17/2013 0 Comments Trust me. I got youHe is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He" Moses in this passage would surely associate the Rock as God. As the Rock, had bought forth water enough for nearly three million people in the wilderness. I Corinthians 10:4 says, "And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ." In the book of John, Jesus called Himself the Way, the Truth, and the Life. John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." We find, also, that Jesus is the Judge. John 5:22 "For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:" We can see from all of this that, the One you and I call Jesus, is the Rock, He is Judge, He is Truth. We could name a thousand things more that He is. He is our All in all. He is the Doer part of the Godhead. ROCK! His work is perfect, His ways just, faithful, righteous and upright. He immovable and unchangeable character. The Great I am. He is trustworthy. Our protector. His ways are right. He is saying to us, I got you, TRUST ME! God is telling us that He is safe, and just and right, solid, never changing with the wind of culture. Do you claim the promise of His character in your life? Do you know God? Do you trust God?
6/10/2013 0 Comments ListenListen to Jesus’ Words in John 10:27-28, saying, As believers, we all want to hear God’s voice. Why? Because we are Jesus’ sheep and we long to know where our Shepherd is leading us. Yet, so many of us feel as if we are in life all alone. We are like Shepherd-less sheep, wandering without purpose or any direction at all. And this is exactly what Satan would like us all to believe. But let us be thankful and rejoice that is so far from the truth.com! God did gave us a special gift—the Holy Spirit to dwell in us so that He may in close fellowship or relationship with you and me. God wants us to be able to hear His Voice not only today but always just like Adam and Eve heard Him in the garden of Eden. Often times we look to God to speak to us in a thunderous and booming voice. Yes, that could happen. But His voice is also a quiet whisper. Today, as we go through the day, keep an ear out for that gentle whisper guiding and commanding us as we go through life. When we hear God’s voice and choose to obey His laws, we will find Him, no matter where we may be. There is nothing more sensational than that! Remember that God is in the thunder as well as the whisper, and He is completely in control of the outcome. Many times we miss out on hearing God’s voice because we don’t know how He speaks. —but in today’s Scripture passages, we find that His voice is that of a loving, kind and devoted Shepherd. Commit today to listening for His gentle whisper…let's take the time to slow down and listen.
6/3/2013 0 Comments Small Faith, Big ResultsThe apostles said to the Lord, “Show us how to increase our faith.” The Lord answered, “If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be uprooted and thrown into the sea,’ and it would obey you! ~ Luke 17:5-6
Have you ever seen a mustard seed? The mustard seed is one of the smallest of all seeds. During our recent Women's Retreat, we gave each woman a mustard seed to symbolize the faith required to bring their "Plan of Victory" to fruition. The mustard seed is so small that you can hardly even see it. Some of them placed them in bags and attached them inside their vision books. Some people wear a necklace that has one of these tiny mustard seeds inside of a piece of glass. They wear this necklace as a symbol of their faith in God. Do you know why the mustard seed is considered a symbol of faith? The mustard seed symbolized that when it comes to faith you don’t need very much, size has nothing to do with how much that can be accomplished. Have you in your entire life ever witnessed someone telling a mulberry tree to uproot itself and throw itself into the sea, and it obeyed? I haven’t and if you have please let me know because I want to hear that story! Jesus was not suggesting that you and I go around trying to move trees just to prove that we have faith. You see, the size of faith Jesus is talking about here is microscopic, yet with it the impossible can be done. The disciples asked for more faith and Jesus literally told them they had enough. Why did they want more? To meet the challenges of God's demands, but Jesus knew that it was not quantity they needed but quality. They did not need an increase of faith that would bring some reward, fame or status following its use, but a faith that is small that produces great results and those results don't depend on us, they depend on God. WIth him, the impossible can be done with the smallest measure of faith. |
Meditate On
His Goodness We are told to “be of the same mind toward one another” which means essentially that we must develop and maintain the mind of Christ or God’s thoughts. But if our thoughts are contrary to God’s, then we must exchange our thinking with God’s and for that process, He has given us His inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word. So what is our need? We are to study the Scripture, but for that to be effective, we also need to develop the art of biblical meditation. Enter into The Sanctuary to meditate on the Word of God.
